Recovered from my injury, and it felt awesome to be back on court again tonight!
Even better, it was still light outside. Not that I didn’t enjoy those dark, cold winter sessions 😂, but the sunshine and brighter evenings definitely make a difference.
Tonight we worked on serving again, but this time the focus was on returning serves and using the return to put pressure on the opponent. I’d have moments where my serve felt great, and then the next one I couldn’t hit a barn door. I’ve noticed I tend to rush when throwing the ball up to serve, and if it’s not in the right spot, ended up dancing around trying to adjust and everything would fall apart. I need to slow things down and stop worrying about getting the ball over quickly. If the throw isn’t right, catch it, reset, and go again.
As always, whenever we focus on something new, I seem to forget techniques I’ve worked on before. Funny enough, when I just play for the enjoyment of it and stop overthinking, things usually start to click a lot more naturally.
Hoping that with more time and practice, I’ll over think less and trust the feel of it all.
