Monday night tennis has quickly become my favourite night of the week.
Tonight’s lesson was more practice with serves, returning and then keeping up that rally for 4 shots. I’m feeling better about serving, I just need to keep loose, not tighten up, and my biggest thing: give it some attitude and go for it. 😂 Returning a good serve is a new skill within itself as it changes a few mechanics but feels similar, but different. Not that any of us are hitting 80mph balls 😂 more just happy if we get them where they are supposed to go.
Andy told us as soon as the ball is in play you need to be like a switch and go into game mode and really focus up, then you can switch off in-between and it sounds obvious but it really improved me! I think because everyone is so friendly it feels perhaps like playing with friends in a casual format. You don’t want to get too competitive but it’s mainly just about getting the ball and really extending yourself to get to those returns etc.
Overall another enjoyable lesson, finally getting myself my own racket after trying a range at the session, and making sure I didn’t grab something overpriced or totally wrong for me from Amazon. Small thing, but a little reward for sticking with lessons and cardio tennis.
If you are reading this and have always wanted to start tennis lessons or cardio with tennis weaved in this is another great session they offer. The vibe is so welcoming, there is no pressure or judgement, everyone just enjoys playing tennis, running about and improving at their own pace and the coaches make all that possible and are very encouraging. Can’t recommend it enough. Mix of skills, ages, men and women. Do it! You won’t regret it!
